Vint, Can you report what driver you have downloaded and where exactly you are stuck when installing it ? If it is a archive (tar) file, there may be a readme file with installation instructions.

Just downloaded and installed updates on my 3.8 machine.  As well as the kernel firefox got an update to 85.0. Booted with the new kernel and Firefox started ok.

Moltke - I couldn't get 'apt-mark hold version' to work.  Have you tried it ? I had set it on my 3.8 32 bit system when still on 4.4.0.201 but it subsequently downloaded and upgraded version to 4.4.0...
