Exclamation Help Installing Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.2 – Missing libgl1-mesa-glx on Linux Lite 7.0
Posted by: DoesntMatter - 04-20-2025, 09:45 PM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.2 on Linux Lite 7.0, which is based on Ubuntu 24.04. However, when I run the `.deb` installer, I get the following error:

packettracer depends on libgl1-mesa-glx; however: Package libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.

I tried installing `mesa-utils` and other related packages, but it seems `libgl1-mesa-glx` is no longer available in the 24.04 repositories. I also searched for `.deb` packages online, but couldn't download them successfully from the Ubuntu mirrors.

Does anyone know a safe workaround for this? Maybe a replacement library or a PPA that brings this dependency back? I’d like to avoid downgrading my system or switching distros just for this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  Cannot update due to "shim-signed"
Posted by: Idiot Annon - 04-03-2025, 07:20 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (3)

Hello i tried to fix this problem with the help of AI assistant on the main site but it could not help so now im asking you guys.
Whenever im trying to run sudo apt upgrade or sudo apt dist-upgrade I get the same error and i have no idea what to do with it.

Code:
sudo apt upgrade
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
Calculating upgrade...
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
  linux-headers-5.15.0-122
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove it.
The following packages have been kept back:
  compiz grub-efi-amd64-bin grub-efi-amd64-signed libb-hooks-op-check-perl
  libclass-xsaccessor-perl libemail-address-xs-perl libnetaddr-ip-perl
  libparams-classify-perl libperlio-gzip-perl libsocket6-perl
  libsub-identify-perl libtext-levenshteinxs-perl libtime-moment-perl
  libvariable-magic-perl
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 14 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] Setting up shim-signed (1.51.4+15.8-0ubuntu1) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/shim-signed.postinst: 165: /usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install: not found
dpkg: error processing package shim-signed (--configure):
installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127
Errors were encountered while processing:
shim-signed
What i got from doing my research so far is that shim-signed is something to do with Secure Boot UEFI option and i was suggested to go to the BIOS and turn of Secure Boot. My motherboard on this machine is quite old and it doesnt have Secure Boot option in the BIOS. Also im not using any other OS on this machine, no dual boot stuff or anything, just Linux Lite.
AI suggested a few different commands to run such as "sudo apt --fix-broken install" but every thing it told me to try just gave me the same error.

  Linux Lite 7.4 Final Released
Posted by: Valtam - 03-31-2025, 10:48 AM - Forum: Release Announcements - Replies (2)

Release Announcement

Linux Lite 7.4 Final is now available for download.

Linux Lite 7.4 is considered to be a minor release as it only contains, LTS updates, bug fixes, code and GUI changes. See below for more details.

Window Theme: Materia
Icon Theme: Papirus
Font: Roboto Regular

How do I know if my Windows PC has UEFI?

In Windows Search, type msinfo or msinfo32 and launch the desktop app named System Information. Look for the BIOS Mode item, and if the value for it is UEFI, then you have the UEFI firmware. If it says BIOS Mode Legacy, then that’s the firmware you’re running.

Secure Boot is supported, but unless you know exactly how to handle it, it is a P.I.T.A. at best so I am going to say...you must disable Secure Boot to enable stress free computing.

Some helpful snippets from the latest Help Manual:

Thunderbird: 128.8.1
LibreOffice: 25.2.1.2
VLC: 3.0.20
Gimp: 2.10.36
Base: 24.04.2

Known Issues:

Please enter them into this thread. Thank you.

Upgrading:

> Menu, Favorites, Install Updates (you must reboot if asked to, otherwise continue to the next step)
> Set a Restore Point - Menu, System, Timeshift
> Menu, Settings, Lite Upgrade
> Reboot

Having problems upgrading?

First thing to do is open a terminal, and make sure you have the latest version of Lite Upgrade.

Code:
apt policy lite-upgrade-series7

should return:

Code:
  Installed: 7.0-0030-linuxlite
  Candidate: 7.0-0030-linuxlite

If you've ran Install Updates and still don't have this version or greater you can either - wait 24 hours, or change to the default Linux Lite repository in Lite Sources.

There is no upgrade path from RC to Final or from Series to Series.
